Explore Zanzibar

Scuba Diving and Snorkeling

If you enjoy scuba diving and snorkeling, reefs dot Zanzibar’s warm waters. There is something for everyone - wreck dives, shallow snorkeling, colorful coral, macro delights (like Nudibranchs), wall dives, turtles, sharks, and dolphins. Check out the beautiful ocean life in Northern Zanzibar and off the coast of Stone Town, or expand your options in Mnemba Island, Tumbatu Island, Pemba Island, and Mafia Island. From October through April, on Mafia Island, you have a chance to snorkel with whale sharks. (The best time to see them is November-December.)

Jozani-Chwaka National Park

Jonzai is a sanctuary that hosts an endangered species only found in Zanzibar, the Red Colobus monkey. When you take an excursion to Jozani, you will walk the forest trail. As you walk, you will have a chance to view the Red Colobus, other monkey species, duikers (small antelope), bushbabies, and birds. You will also be surrounded by what UNESCO describes as “a mosaic of mangroves, tropical forests, and coral rug forests.”

Prison Island

Looking for a pristine place to escape and find peace and quiet? Prison Island is the perfect spot. This sanctuary is home to Zanzibar’s Giant Aldabran Tortoise colony, some of which are over a hundred years old! This endangered species, which can weigh up to 249 kg (550 pounds), came to Zanzibar as a gift from the government of the Seychelles. Beyond feeding the tortoises, you can snorkel the beautiful coral reef or sunbathe on their amazing white beaches. A tour of Prison Island is a great way to explore history and wildlife, while also seeing Stone Town from the sea.

Spice Plantation

During this rare experience, your tour guide will set out to prove Zanzibar’s nickname - Spice Island - is a perfect fit. While here, you will have a chance to see, taste, and smell tropical fruits, spices, and other rare plants. Zanzibar offers an array of fresh spices, including cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, black peppers, Tumeric, ginger, vanilla sticks, lemon grass, nutmeg, and many more! This is a delectable excursion to add to any itinerary, especially for those who revel in the culinary experiences.

Safari Blue

Safari Blue starts at the village of Fumba, the most convenient location for exploring the Menai Bay Conservation Area. In the morning, you will relax on a sandbank, drink from a coconut, and taste seasonal fruits before you have a chance to snorkel with the local wildlife. From there, travel to Kwale Island to enjoy a buffet lunch with seafood options like fish, lobster, and calamari served hot from grill. If the tide permits, take a swim in the natural lagoon and see the mangrove forest. As Safari Blue comes to an end, you will return to Fumba on a traditional boat and enjoy the full splendor of an African sunset. (Note: This is a shared trip with additional tourists outside of your party.)

Stone Town Historical Tour

African, Indian, Arabic, and Persian influences intertwine in Zanzibar, giving it a unique atmosphere and rich history. Stone Town is the old town and cultural heart of Zanzibar. It’s full of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, and historic religious buildings, not to mention grand Arab, Indian and African houses with ornate, carved wooden doors (some of the doors date back as far as the 1800s). If you join this walking tour, you will see the stunning architecture of this World Heritage site.
